This workshop for aged 14-18 year olds provides an opportunity to develop improvisation skills in an inclusive environment by exploring a diverse jazz repertoire. Musicians of any instrument are invited to take part, with some experience on their instrument (or voice) required. There is no requirement for musicians to be able to read music.

Local jazz musician Pete Truin will lead the session. Pete is a professional multi-instrumentalist and recording artist, educator, musical director and vocal leader performing on sax, guitar, concertina and voice.

The workshop will be followed by a public performance and open jam session in The Exchange Café.

Musical Passage is initiated by Radical Ecology in Plymouth and aims to support the long-term development of a cohesive infrastructure for anti-racist jazz education across Devon and Cornwall. Drawing on Tomorrow’s Warriors expertise as the UK’s leading provider of free-at-the-point-of-delivery jazz education for young people, Radical Ecology is working with partners across Devon and Cornwall to identify a network of music teachers across the region.

This event is part of Open City – a season of decolonial art and public programming inviting artists, activists and thinkers from across south-west England to listen, walk and dream together exploring the essential role of inclusive civic spaces in creating just and sustainable planetary futures.
